The Insta Pose That’s Got Social Media Angry

The Insta Pose That’s Got Social Media Angry

July 13, 2018

You may or may not have heard of the “migraine pose”. Adopted by celebs including Bella Hadid and Kylie Jenner, it’s the latest pose trend to hit social media. However, this seemingly innocent pose has got some Instagram users very upset, But why we hear you ask! Carry on reading to find out girl.

The pose coined by makeup artist Nam Von, involves posing with one or both hands pulling back the face upwards by the temples as if to suggest you’re suffering from a hefty migraine. The pose gives the appearance of tighter skin, makes the cheekbones more prominent, and lifts the brow - giving the poser essentially a temporary face life for their selfies. The chances are you’ve already seen your favourite actress, singer or model strike this pose before, so what’s the big deal?

Well, it comes to down to the name. Many migraine sufferers have taken offence to the condition being trivialised for a social media trend, and they’ve made their feelings quite clear in the comment sections.

“This troubles me so much, 38 millions Americans suffer from migraines. It has destroyed my quality of life #itsnotpretty” one commenter posed.

“Migraines are no joke I suffer from them every day and spend my days in a dark room in severe pain. When I am having a severe migraine attack my face sure as hell does not look these poses” another commented.

Vo has since gone one to make a formal apology after receiving backlash. She wrote ““Hi my Dewey Dumplings, my apologies. This wasn’t meant to be offensive or hurt anyone’s feelings. I am touched by the personal stories that you have all shared. I love all my Dumplings and want you all to be happy and healthy! It’s all about the LOVE,”.

So what do you lovely ladies think? Are migraines a serious health condition that shouldn’t be joked about, or is this simply an innocent pose that has been blown out of proportion?
